Upcoming Workshops

STARTS – not including backstroke
Foundation Level 1

Date/Time: Sunday 5 February 14:00-16:00
Location: Wavelengths
Format:  2 hours in the pool.
Capacity: 10 swimmers.
Entry level: master swimmers looking to improve their race starts.

More info

Swimmers will be taken through the fundamentals:

✓ How to streamline – needed to enter the water with a clean line and set up the underwater phase.
✓ Holding the streamline position from a kneeling and standing dive.
✓ Run through of the leg stance – understanding how to create power from the blocks with the legs.
✓ Run through of using the arms – understanding how arms play an important part to power your way off the blocks.

All work is conducted from the side of the pool not from the blocks.

Swimmers will be advised following the session as to whether they are suitable to progress to Level 2 or need to repeat Level 1.

Foundation Level 2

Date/Time: TBC (Sunday)
Location: London Aquatics Centre
Format:  2 hours in the pool.
Capacity: 4 swimmers.
Entry level: swimmers must have completed Foundation Level 1.

More info

Swimmers will be taken through the fundamentals of  level 1 with progression to holding skills from blocks with a foot rest. Session is heavily focussed on the movement of the legs holding the streamline and balance.

Blocks with foot rests will be used in this session.

Swimmers will be advised on whether they are suitable to progress to Level 3 or need to repeat Level 2.

Foundation Level 3

Date/Time: TBC (Sunday)
Location: London Aquatics Centre
Format:  2 hours in the pool.
Capacity: 4 swimmers.
Entry level: swimmers must have completed Foundation Level 2.

STARTS – backstroke only
Foundation Level 1

Date/Time: TBC (Sunday)
Location: Wavelengths
Format:  1 hour Dryland –  followed by 1.5 hrs in the pool.
Capacity: 6 swimmers.

Swimmers will be taken through the fundamentals:

✓ How to streamline on the back – needed to enter the water with a clean line and set up the underwater phase.
✓ Foot placement – understanding how to power up the start from the balls of the feet.
✓ Legs – understanding how they enter the water and when to start your 1st fly kick.
✓ Arms – timing of the arms and how to get into streamline quickly.
✓ Head & body position – understanding the part this plays in creating speed off the blocks.

Swimmer must be able to fly kick on their back in streamline and under the water for 10m+.

Swimmers will be advised following the session as to whether they are suitable to progress to Level 2 or need to repeat Level 1.

Foundation Level 2

Date/Time: TBC (Sunday)
Location: London Aquatics Centre
Format:  2 hours in the pool.
Capacity: 4 swimmers.
Entry level: swimmers must have completed Foundation Level 1.

More info

Swimmers will be taken through the fundamentals of level 2 using blocks with progression to understanding how to power off the blocks. Swimmers will learn how to enter the water at an optimum depth to hold the underwater phase.

Upcoming Courses

BREASTSTROKE

This is suitable for anyone who can currently swim breaststroke 100m under 1:50 and knows how to fly kick, albeit not with a high level of technical ability or speed. This is not a course to correct screw kicks or learn how to breaststroke. It is for the breaststroker who is looking to develop their stroke further to race in competition and how to build the fitness.

Date/Time: TBC (Tuesday evening) 19:00 – 21:00
Location: Wavelengths (25m).
Format:  30 mins Dryland – 1.5 hour in the pool.
Capacity: 6 swimmers.
